  • 12th June 2007 - Peace Cup Change

  • Italian side Udinese have withdrawn from this summer's Peace Cup tournament in South Korea. Their place in group A will be taken by Real Racing Club de Santander. Racing are currently 10th in the Spanish Primera Division with 1 game remaining and last weekend had two players sent off in a goalless draw at relegation threatened Real Sociedad.

  • 11th June 2007 - Halford Departs

  • The Royals have agreed the sale of Greg Halford to Sunderland for an initial fee of £2.5m, rising to £3m depending on next season's appearances. Greg became the Royals' record signing when he joined from Colchester United for an undisclosed fee in January, but he made just three first team appearances over the remainder of the season.

Director of Football Nick Hammond explained, "It's fair to say that Greg did not make the impact here that both he and ourselves would have liked. Sometimes in football, players do move on quite quickly if it's felt that the 'fit' isn't quite right. But this is absolutely no reflection on Greg as a person or a player, and he has been a very good professional during his short time with us. From a purely financial perspective, this is an excellent deal for us with a good upside on our initial investment in January. Sunderland have pursued the player strongly and I'm sure he will do very well for them. Everyone at Reading FC wishes Greg every success for his future."

Sunderland boss Roy Keane added, "I'm delighted Greg has decided to join us, and hopefully he will play a big part in what we hope to be a successful few years for the club."

Meanwhile, Ulises De La Cruz has agreed a new contract to keep him at Reading for another year.
