Manchester United will be the first of the 'big-guns' to visit the Madejski Stadium on 23rd September. The following 3 home games see the might of Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham all coming to town in what looks like being a tough autumn period. • 12th June 2006 - James Bid Rebuffed

  • Reading have made a £2m bid for England goalkeeper David James (God only knows why)! Thankfully, however, the offer has been rejected by Manchester City. Let us just hope that the Royals do not go back with an improved offer.

  • 5th June 2006 - Royals U-19's Victorious

  • 17-year-old Reading midfielder Gylfi Thor Sigurdsson clinched victory for Reading's Under 19 side against French club Grenoble, in a 4-3 penalty shoot-out win in the final of a youth tournament in France, at the weekend.

The young Reading side was defensively solid throughout the tournament and did not concede a goal until in the penalty shoot-out against Grenoble in the final. In the group-stages, Reading were paired with Portuguese giants Benfica, Dutch side Maastricht and Czech Republic’s Sparta Prague. The Royals eased to win the group after beating Maastricht 5-0, Benfica 2-0 (in which Sigurdsson scored the opening goal) and narrowly beating the Prague club 1-0.

As group winners with maximum points, Reading qualified for the final against Grenoble, which they won 4-3 on penalties. Sigurdsson played all the matches from start to finish in midfield and was impressive according to reports.

  • 2nd June 2006 - New Kit

  • Reading have revealed their new away kit for next season. It is, in my opinion, a very smart looking kit in an unusual cerise colour. The Royals will also be revealing a new home kit next month.

Now that Reading are Premiership they have greater priority with the kit manufacturers, meaning that fans will not have to wait as long as usual to get their hands on replica shirts. Indeed, the new away kit will be available from 4th July to those who pre-order. The home kit will be launched in August.

  • 2nd June 2006 - Premier Changes

  • Reading have now been officially affiliated to the Premiership and there are a few changes that they will need to put in place in order to comply with Premiership rules.

As an example, Premier League press boxes are required to have TV monitors within view of all press seats, and these are being installed well in time for the new season. Other media facilities will also change within the stadium, with the location of a new press lounge currently being discussed.

There will be a new hospitality package in the Princess Suite, entitled the 106 Club, in recognition of the Royals' record-breaking 106-point haul last season.

Changes to the Hogwood Park training ground are also being planned, both for the players and press.

The Club will enter a new Premiership south reserve league next season, facing the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, among others.

There will be enforced changes to some aspects of our playing kit, including new Premiership sleeve badges, names and numbers. Advertising on the back of shirts is also not allowed, so the 'Print Copy Scan Fax' will not be on the back of our shirts.
